Sometimes the newest members of the family show up when you least expect them.
While driving along the highway, Zack and Madeleine spotted two tiny Silkie roosters wandering dangerously close to traffic. They were confused, vulnerable, and clearly did not belong there.
Because both birds were roosters, it seemed likely that they had been abandoned. Sadly, this can happen with backyard chickens when people are not prepared to care for male birds. Left near a busy road, these two had very little chance of staying safe.
Zack and Madeleine pulled over right away. They found a large cardboard box, carefully gathered up the two Silkies, and brought them home to the safety of Rainbow Bridge Hawaiʻi.
Two Silkie Roosters Find a New Home
The two roosters have since become much-loved members of our animal family.
One is light gray and the other is a deeper gray, but the easiest way to recognize them is to look for the pair together. They are almost always side by side and rarely wander far from one another.
They also have plenty of personality.
Every now and then, they puff themselves up and make a spirited little leap as if they are ready for a fight. Thankfully, the performance is usually much more dramatic than the reality. Their bark is definitely worse than their bite.
It has been fun watching them settle in, explore their surroundings, and grow more comfortable in their new home at Rainbow Bridge.
Animal Rescue at Rainbow Bridge Hawaiʻi
Their story is a simple reminder of how much one small act of compassion can matter.
For Zack and Madeleine, stopping the car and helping two chickens may have seemed like an obvious thing to do. For these little roosters, it changed everything.
They went from wandering along a highway to having a safe place to live, regular food, shelter, companionship, and people looking out for them.
