At Rainbow Bridge Hawaii, we embrace the gift economy by prioritizing relationships and shared well-being over transactional exchanges. The Way of Council
Our community uses weekly council using principles outlined in Jack Zimmerman’s book, “The Way of Council” to foster deep, authentic connections among members. We create a container where everyone can speak from the heart and listen deeply, ensuring that each voice is heard and valued. This practice helps us navigate conflicts, share insights, and process emotions with empathy and respect. Through Council, we build a stronger sense of unity and mutual support, helping our community to operate with trust and genuine understanding.
The Four Agreements
In our interactions, we strive to adhere to the Four Agreements—be impeccable with your word, don’t take anything personally, don’t make assumptions, and always do your best—as guiding principles for our interactions. By committing to speak truthfully and thoughtfully, we create a foundation of trust and clarity. We strive to avoid personalizing conflicts and making assumptions, which helps prevent misunderstandings and fosters a supportive atmosphere. Embracing these agreements, we encourage each other to consistently put forth our best efforts, promoting a harmonious and respectful environment where our relationships can grow and deepen.
Grigor originally bought the land and has put nearly 30 years of time, effort, and love into the land. He has planted many trees, including nitrogen-fixing ice cream bean trees which have helped tremendously to help repair the soil after the over-production of sugar cane had stripped it all those years ago. Grigor is a writer, an avid meditator, and our elder here at Rainbow Bridge Hawaii.
Zack and his wife Madeleine joined Grigor in 2020 in a time of financial need. He brought a passion for food sovereignty and growing a variety of rare fruit trees. Him and Madeleine quickly saw to the creation of a large fenced garden space, the beginnings of fruit forests, and the growing of community. Zack is the Founder and CEO of numerous companies, including Student Loan Tutor, Holistic Finance, and Ecstatic Dance Salt Lake City.
Apart from being one of the co-owners, Madeleine plays an integral role in the day-to-day happenings of Rainbow Bridge Hawaii. She helps coordinate projects, work-trade energy, and the financial needs of the community. She has a passionate love for animals, working with children with special needs, and creating incredible sets as an ecstatic dance dj.
Whether it be through volunteering, internships, work-trade, or donations, we love and appreciate all gifts made to the land, people, or animals of Rainbow Bridge Hawaii, and strive to give back in the spirit of the gift any way that we can.
