Do you have skills in areas like gardening, maintenance, or building — and feel curious or passionate about the idea of living in community, connected with nature and the land?
Rainbow Bridge is an 86-acre riverside haven on Hawai‘i Island where humans, plants, and animals coexist in harmony. We’re co-creating a living model of regenerative culture — rooted in service, creativity, and connection with the ʻāina. Our team values responsibility, open communication, and shared purpose. If you feel called to grow alongside the land and contribute your hands, heart, and skills to a vibrant community, explore our current opportunities below.
Rainbow Bridge is an off-grid ecological and healing community on the Hāmākua Coast of the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. We are stewarding an 86-acre permaculture farm and sanctuary that weaves together:
Our aim is to create a modern-day healing sanctuary, where land, infrastructure, and culture support deep rest, insight, and real change.
We are in an active land-development and infrastructure phase. One of our highest-priority needs is fencing.
Current projects include:
Expanding and upgrading perimeter and interior fencing
Animal containment and pasture management fencing
Gate installation and repairs
Terrain-adapted fencing across slopes and uneven land
Supporting broader infrastructure as needed
This is not a commercial fencing company. It’s real, functional work in a living ecosystem.
We are inviting a highly responsible, detail-oriented individual to take a lead role in our fencing project across the land.
This role is ideal for someone with fencing experience (or strong transferable skills) who is interested in:
Gaining deeper proficiency in a high-demand, practical trade
Working independently while coordinating with our land manager
Contributing meaningfully within a community context
This is a work-trade position, not a salaried or hourly job.
Responsibility grows through trust, demonstrated skill, and alignment—rather than titles or promises.
Primary focus areas include:
Planning and executing fencing projects
Installing and repairing agricultural and land fencing
Setting posts, running wire, installing gates, and ensuring durability
Assessing terrain and adapting fencing solutions accordingly
Maintaining tools, materials, and organized work areas
Coordinating with the land manager and land stewards
Participating in shared community responsibilities (meals, upkeep, etc.)
You may be a good fit if:
You have fencing experience or related hands-on land/build skills
You can work safely, independently, and take ownership of outcomes
You are reliable, grounded, and follow through
You have leadership capacity or are ready to step into it
You feel called to contribute your skills in a spirit of service
This is not a good fit if:
You are primarily seeking a market-rate job
Your main concern is salary and benefits
If your question is:
“What are we building here, and how can I help?”
You’re in the right place.
Simple on-land housing (off-grid, comfortable, and surrounded by nature)
Shared organic, farm-to-table meals
Training and hands-on experience in a valuable, in-demand trade
The opportunity to live and work closely with the land
A modest stipend may be available based on skills and responsibility. Paid hours beyond the core commitment
Initial trial: 3–6 months preferred (1–3 months minimum)
~25 hours per week focused on fencing and land infrastructure
After the initial period, we mutually assess whether to extend or adjust the role

What We Offer
Time Commitment
Rainbow Bridge is an off-grid ecological and healing community on the Hāmākua Coast of Hawaiʻi Island. We are building a multi-faceted sanctuary that weaves together:
Our aim is to create a modern-day healing sanctuary in service to people and the planet — a place where the land, the food, and the culture support deep nourishment, resilience, and transformation.
Our gardens are an essential part of community life. They provide food, learning, and connection to the land, while serving as living systems that require care, rhythm, and stewardship.
We are in a phase of strengthening and stabilizing food production, improving systems, and transitioning leadership responsibilities in collaboration with our land manager.
This is a work-trade opportunity, not a salaried or market-rate farming job.
The Gardener is a service-oriented role focused on nurturing abundance from our vegetable gardens while helping guide and educate others who are learning to work with the land.
You will work closely with the land manager and executive directors, gradually taking on responsibility through demonstrated care, reliability, and alignment — not through hierarchy or titles.

Maintenance here is not just “fixing things” — it’s stewardship of the physical backbone that supports the entire community.
This is a work-trade opportunity, not a salaried maintenance or facilities job.
The Maintenance Lead supports the day-to-day functioning of Rainbow Bridge by caring for tools, equipment, and infrastructure, while helping guide others who are learning these skills.
You will take direction from the land manager and executive directors, and work closely with work-traders and community members. Responsibility grows through demonstrated reliability, care, and alignment — not through hierarchy or promises.
