Some exciting changes are happening in the plant nursery at Rainbow Bridge Hawaiʻi!
We recently cleared out the entire nursery area, carefully pulling out the plants and moving them to make room for a major expansion. This empty room will soon be transformed into something way bigger!
Making Room for a Bigger Plant Nursery
One of the biggest parts of the project is a new cement pour that will create the foundation for the expanded nursery space.
Once complete, the plant nursery will be roughly double its previous size.
Clearing an established growing area is a lot of work, especially when the goal is to preserve and relocate the plants that were already there. But creating more room gives us the opportunity to improve the space and dramatically increase how many plants we can grow.
Growing More Plants in Hawaiʻi
The goal of the nursery expansion is simple: grow more plants and eventually make them available for sale.
A larger nursery will give us more space to propagate, nurture, and care for plants as they grow. In Hawaiʻi’s year-round growing environment, a productive nursery can become an important part of a larger regenerative growing system.
For us, growing plants is also part of our relationship with the land. Every plant that takes root contributes to the larger landscape we are continually tending and learning from.
Supporting a More Regenerative Future
The nursery is one piece of the ongoing land stewardship happening at Rainbow Bridge Hawaiʻi.
Our gardens, food forests, and other growing spaces are constantly evolving. Expanding the nursery gives us another way to build on that work while creating the capacity to eventually share more plants beyond our own land.
There is still plenty of work ahead. For now, the plants have been moved, the space has been cleared, and the expansion is underway.
Sometimes growth starts by clearing a little more room for what comes next.
We’re excited to watch this space fill back up with plants.
Follow Along With the Nursery Expansion
We’ll continue sharing updates as the new plant nursery takes shape and we begin growing in the expanded space.
