The story of Rainbow Bridge Hawaii is not only of hard work, devotion, and teamwork, but also of magic, miracles and synchronicity. Many years of love and labor have gone into this land, and we honor every hand which has touched its soil, planted its seeds, and harvested from its trees.
While Manoloa Inc. has only been around since 2020, board member and original land steward, Grigor, has been caretaking this land for nearly 30 years. Over time, a dream began to take root — a dream of regeneration, reciprocity, and community-led healing. That dream became Rainbow Bridge.
When Grigor first acquired the land in 1996, it was not a jungle paradise, it was overrun by invasive cane grass, a remnant of the exploitative sugarcane industry. Grigor worked tirelessly clearing the cane, building his home, and setting up off-grid systems. Over the years he planted hundreds of fruit trees, including a large variety of nitrogen-fixing ice cream beans and a 250 tree kaimana lychee orchard.
In early 2020, Zack and Madeleine (pictured on either side of Grigor) arrived on the land as tenants, unaware that they would soon become co-founders of a shared vision. By May of that year, they joined Grigor—who had long held a dream of cultivating a spiritually-rooted, land-based community—as co-owners and collaborators. United by a common purpose, the three founded Rainbow Bride Hawaii, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting regenerative living, spiritual connection, and community stewardship on the land.
Over the years, many community members have come and gone, each offering their unique energy, gifts, and labor to help shape the land and bring the vision to life. Their contributions—whether in building, gardening, or caretaking—are woven into the foundation of what Rainbow Bridge Hawaii has become. Alongside them, a growing family of rescued animals has also found refuge here—from dairy cows and horses to donkeys, chickens, dogs, and cats each one now a beloved part of the wider community, cared for with compassion and purpose.
Today, Rainbow Bridge Hawaii is both a nonprofit organization and a living, breathing community. Rooted in the land and guided by shared values, we’ve grown into an energetic family of long-term residents, work-traders, and volunteers who contribute their hands, hearts, and skills toward a collective vision. Through our nonprofit, we support projects and programs that promote regenerative agriculture, healing, spiritual exploration, education, and community resilience. Together, we are co-creating a model of grounded, connected community living.
Whether it be through volunteering, internships, work-trade, or donations, we love and appreciate all gifts made to the land, people, or animals of Rainbow Bridge Hawaii, and strive to give back in the spirit of the gift any way that we can.
