Our latest project has been landscaping around the temple to prepare the space for retreat participants. The goal is to create an environment that feels peaceful, beautiful, and alive while also being practical and nourishing.
Rather than planting only ornamental landscaping, we are choosing a combination of edible and ornamental plants. This approach reflects the values of Rainbow Bridge Hawaii, where beauty and sustainability can grow together.
The landscaping plan includes perennial plants that will continue to return and support the land over time. These plants are being selected for both their aesthetic presence and their usefulness, with edible components woven throughout the design.
Some of the new plantings include citrus trees, bringing color, fragrance, and future harvests to the temple area.
Over time, these trees will help create a lush and abundant setting around the dream temple, offering shade, beauty, and nourishment.
Creating Beauty That Can Be Maintained
A major part of the work has been clearing the area around the temple so the landscaping can be shaped with intention.
This has included:
- digging out grasses
- preparing the soil
- reclaiming areas that had become overgrown.
The purpose is not only to beautify the space, but also to uphold it. Retreat spaces need care, and thoughtful landscaping makes it easier to maintain the land while preserving the sense of sacredness around the temple.
The Aesklepion is being prepared as a place where guests can feel held by the land. Every path, plant, terrace, and garden bed contributes to that experience.
Building a Two-Level Terrace Around the Temple
Another important finishing touch is the creation of a terrace around the dream temple. This terrace is being designed in two levels.
The upper level will hold garden space, bringing more plant life directly into the temple environment. The lower level will create a pathway around the temple, allowing people to move through the space with ease.
This design supports both beauty and function. The garden level adds life and abundance, while the pathway creates flow and accessibility.
Together, they help frame the temple as a central place for gathering, contemplation, and dream practice.
Reclaiming Community Spaces With the New Pig Fence
We have also been finishing the pig fence around the community area. This is a big step for the land because it allows us to unlock and reclaim intentionally landscaped spaces.
In Hawaii, protecting gardens and planted areas is essential. With the pig fence in place, we can better care for the edible and ornamental landscaping around the community area and the dream temple.
This means:
- more stability for the plants
- more room for intentional design
- a more peaceful environment for everyone who visits.
Reclaiming these spaces allows the land to reflect the care and vision of the community. It also helps create a more beautiful and grounded experience for the upcoming retreat.
